Greedflation
Blame what you want but it's mostly greed.
Record profits
Executive compensation packages
Shrinking package size
Out-of-control insurance premiums (every category)
Rent gone wild
It’s all part of the Greedflation phenomenon pushing higher living costs.
Corporate profits are the main driver of inflation. The shareholders need their returns, and it is at the expense of us.
If we fail in a system designed to profit from our every breath, we’re squeezed to the brink and then gaslit that it was our fault we couldn’t keep going. We must continue to organize for our slice of the pie because it’s only getting smaller.
What can we do right now?
Three things immediately would make the biggest difference:
Unionization for all workers: You can make an immediate difference by advocating for workplace unionization—yes, every workplace. Your boss has lawyers to review your employment offer (contract). Alone, you don’t. With a union, you do. Unions are the only path to guaranteed equity in your employment.
Unionization for all renters: The same workplace concept is used. The housing market is out of control, and these landlords (Individuals and corporations) are ruining lives for generations by snatching up extra houses to depend on other people’s paychecks instead of taking up a real career. They artificially increase all housing costs, propping up the market through cartel tactics. Short-term rentals are only throwing gas on that dumpster fire.
Community engagement: We’re stronger when our community is stronger. Even if it’s just $1, contributing to your local food banks and other causes helps to ensure it will be there if you’re ever in the position to need it.
The Wrap-Up:
We’re still experimenting with the format of our long-form communications. We don’t want to be too long-winded. Over time, we’ll continue to improve, so thanks for being here for that journey.
The message from today’s communication is we’re stronger together.
Please be kind to yourself. The world is hard enough.
